Winning voter reforms in Massachusetts

MASSPIRG helped win two important reforms to engage new voters and give all citizens an equal opportunity to vote. We fought for and won online voter registration, which allows residents with state IDs or driver’s licenses to register to vote online. We also won early voting, which allows residents to vote 11 business days before Election Day.

Following Defeat of Federal Voting Bill in U.S. Senate, Election Modernization Coalition urges Massachusetts Legislature to pass VOTES Act

The Massachusetts Election Modernization Coalition is deeply disappointed that the U.S. Senate cannot find a way to pass the Freedom to Vote: John R. Lewis Act to protect access to the ballot box across the country. Senate Republicans had previously blocked even beginning debate on legislation passed by the U.S. House, including the For The People Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

Voting Rights Advocates Applaud Progress on Comprehensive Voting Bill

Boston, MA --Voting rights advocates, public interest groups and a network of state and local organizations praised the decision Monday by the Massachusetts Legislature’s Joint Committee on Elections Laws to send the VOTES Act to the Senate Ways and Means Committee, the first step in bringing the comprehensive voting bill up for a vote.
